Attend one of these upcoming professional development or training opportunities:
The Emergency Management Institute regularly offers its Basic Public Information Officers and Advanced Public Information Officers courses. The basic course is offered on site throughout the state; the four-day advanced course is in Emmitsburg, MD. It is recommended that students complete FEMA’s Basic Public Information Officers course (G290) before they attend the advanced course (E388). For more information on the basic or advanced classes, visit the EMI Web site, http://training.fema.gov.
FEMA has launched a new course, Emergency Support Function 15 (ESF 15) External Affairs: A New Approach to Emergency Communication and Information Distribution. The course is offered through FEMA's Emergency Management Institute through their Independent Study program and can be completed online. The program has some good information in it for public information officers.
